Engine oil in any vehicle is a critical lifeline. This is especially true in the case of the BMW S55 engine. Regular servicing not only maintains current levels of performance but also helps reduce wear. BMW stipulates that the oil should be changed every 15,000 miles. We and other enthusiasts do not agree with this philosophy. Instead, we recommend oil changes every 5,000 miles under normal use to prevent sludge buildup and to ensure that the engine has fresh oil.
Please note: Vehicles built up to 9/2014 use a magnesium oil pan where the drain plug must be replaced with each oil change. This kit has been designed for early production F80 M3's and F82/F83 M4's. With magnesium oil pan the drain plug must be torqued to 20Nm. The oil filter cap is torqued to 25Nm. For the proper oil filter cap removal tool please see BMW special tool p/n 119 240
Engine longevity & optimal performance
It's recommended to use an Engine Flush by Liqui Moly prior to performing an oil change to dissolve sludge and engine deposits. Others have also purchased quality maintenance additives which you can find here.
